The major ski resorts are located within Lapland. Lapland in winter is a magical experience, a scenic winter wonderland located deep inside the Arctic Circle and blanketed in snow from December to May. This a remote and untamed snowy wilderness and home to reindeer and Santa Claus.
The main resorts of Levi and Yllas are located well north of the Arctic Circle at the optimum latitude for seeing the Northern Lights. Each has a distinctly different character but both are in stunningly beautiful wilderness areas.
Finland is a fantastic destination for a skiing or snowboarding holiday. Floodlit ski slopes and snow parks mean that you can enjoy skiing and snowboarding even when the sun has gone down. This is ideal during December and January when you can ski in the enchanting polar twilight and still have plenty of time to hunt the Northern Lights. By February the ski resorts of Finland already have 8 hours of daylight, and more than 12 hours by April, so if you're planning to ski in Finland for Easter, you’ll have plenty of time to try other activities too.
Finland is a hidden gem for spring skiing and a must visit destination for any keen skier or snowboarder. By the middle of March the days are already 12 hours long and by the end of the season you can expect around 24 hours of daylight in which to explore the ski slopes and snow parks. The snow conditions in Finnish ski resorts are unbeatable compared to more southerly resorts.
