Verbier
Verbier is part of the 4 Vallées – Verbier/La Tzoumaz/Nendaz/Veysonnaz/Thyon.
Verbier has developed into a glamorous winter playground. It's an expensive resort but with its superb skiing, international clientele, high-quality accommodation and phenomenal bars and restaurants, it's most certainly worth it.
Situated in the canton of the Valais, in the southwest of Switzerland, Verbier is bordered by France to the west and Italy to the south. It's about a two-hour drive from Geneva airport, or you can take a train from the airport to Le Chable and then hop onto the gondola to the centre of resort.
While Verbier has slopes to suit all levels, it best suits confident, adventurous skiers and snowboarders. The 80 lifts access more than 400km of runs, including some of the best lift-served off piste in the Alps.
Famous itinerary routes such as Tortin, Gentianes and the Vallon D’Arby have helped form Verbier’s reputation as a world class resort for off-piste enthusiasts.
Marked “itinerary” runs are a phenomenon found in the Swiss Alps. These routes provide an excellent introduction to the world of off-piste skiing and allow skiers a great opportunity to develop skills in a relatively safe environment. Although marked itinerary routes are avalanched controlled they should not be confused with marked pistes. Itinerary routes are marked on the official piste maps, however they are not maintained, not controlled and intended for experienced users only.
Itineraries are officially designated off-piste routes, marked on the piste map as yellow lines, a single line of yellow poles in the snow marks the direction of an itinerary route. Itineraries are bounded 20m on each side of the yellow poles.
